SCENT OF SUMMER

SCENT OF SUMMER..
(and memories it brings back)

Be real still and you can smell the scent of summer..
That wonderful warm feel to the air..
Makes a person feel a lot less glummer ..

The scent of flowering trees and flowers permeates my surrounding..
As I lay in the grass, 
Gazing up at the blue stained sky above ... 
So absolutely astounding..

I think back on the days of my childhood..
When my best friend was my brother..
We played and chased;
giggled and laughed ;
Climbed the front yard tree,
No one else,
just him and me, 
Together..

Times were  much simpler
back then..
We could wonder about without fear..
So innocent and carefree..
Our guardian angel very close and tangibly
near ..

Play tag with the kids
next door...
Run to the corner grocery
store..
Buy penny candy and bubblegum, 
We'd sit on the porch step, 
Fight and bicker over some..
We always wanted
More..

Way back in time..
On those warm summer days..
We'd walk a couple blocks..
To a ravine we called 
"The Cooley"..
We would build a fort, 
My brother and I ..
A refuge from the world..
Together, built by four small hands..
Our Castle.. we built so
securely..

We would drift away on a cloud
of wonder..
Just my brother and I..
Two small souls, in fantasy
built free from any
blunder..

At night, while laying in our beds..
We'd reminisce our day..
Start strategically plan 
the next ..
We would imagine where it would
take us..
Our next adventure,
And where it led ..

To run and play, 
Lay in the grass,
Pick the wild fragrant
 blue buttons..
The summer always went by
too fast..

Our little tanned bodies
Kissed by the warm 
summer sun..
Under God's sky, 
We danced and
Sang..
Til summer days were 
done..

Those sweet childhood memories
are just a few
 of summers long ago..
Seared indelibly in my mind,
Just for me to bring back..
To ponder and partake..
Vivid and clear ..like they were yesterday ..
My mind says it's
so..

I can never, nor will I ever, forget my memories..
Still a thought away and close.. 
About me and my brother..
As I feel the soft summers breeze..
