My Small Town..
I am from a small obscure town..
Oh, I've been snickered at and put down..
But I am happy and blessed from whence I came..
No regrets, no real sadness just pure gladness, I proudly claim..
When I was young, had not a care in the world..
You would find me sitting on my porch step, watching life, as I knew it, so pure.
Carefree and simple are the words that come to mind..
When thinking back , living in that small town of mine..
My first Love, sitting in his car out on the curb on main street..
Making out, steaming up the windows in his old tan ford..
We weren't very discreet..
My mothers flashing the porch light.. My clue to come in from that car..
She was afraid of what the neighbors might think and how they would gossip..
"OH MY STARS"..
My friends would come by and we would sit on that porch step waiting for who knows what..
But sit we did, giggling and laughing.. Because we were
"ALL THAT"..
If we needed to go somewhere in that small town..
We'd walk.. Mile or block and didn't complain or frown..
As small town are, and ours wasn't any different..
Tongues wagged and gossip moved like a river's current..
But, I was young and really didn't care what the old ladies said ..
I was happy and glad to give a morsel for those old coots to chew on and be
fed..
Oh! Don't get me wrong.. I was not a bad girl.. Not that kind or sort..
But it usually didn't take much to get the rumor mill started..
It was what they could conjure up and contort..
My small town still gives me happiness as I think back and remember..
The simple fun and laughter I had as I grew up..
When life was a dream as my memories I surrender ..
So once in awhile as I sit on my front step, I recall the old days..
When my family and friends would gather in our old front yard, and watch our whole world pass..
AND WE WOULD WAVE...
