She reached and placed her trembling hands into his as they sat alone ..
His eyes lit up, although most of his sight was nearly gone..
Not one word was said between them as they
sat side by side ..
sat side by side ..
Only the sounds of Christmas Carols on the old radio
in the old house where
they both reside..
in the old house where
they both reside..
Both silently recalled when the now run down home was a vital part of Christmas's past..
When their children were young and their laughter rang out ..the two thought it would always last ..
The children are gone and celebrate with their own families far away..
Too old to travel , they only have each other on this Christmas Day ...
The cherished memories live on
in their broken hearts as they looked
through the tears they shed..
Her trembling hand gripped his a little tighter as she wiped away his tear with the other hand and then she said...
"Sweetheart our lives together have traveled on a long and rocky road ..
But I would not change a thing, or remove from my memory , the sometimes heavy load"... .
"Though we are alone, we have each
other and the memories we share"..
They bowed their heads and he prayed with trembling voice ,this heartfelt prayer..
" Dear God, I praise and thank you for this day we set aside"..
"The day You came incarnate, to walk among us, you gave your life", as he continued and he prayed...
"We are not alone, we know you are with us, as you always have been..
So, bless our children, our friends and family wherever they are ..
For in our hearts and minds they are forever seen"..
"Though our sight is faded, our hands they tremble and we walk a little slow...
We have each other, we have you here to guide us, we feel your love and our hearts they do glow"..
No longer saddened by the thoughts of being separated from children or being alone...
The sound rang out, it broke that moment of silence, it was their phone..
The sound was like that of a distant Christmas bell..
It was was their children, calling one after the other.
All to wish them well ..
